평화로워보이는 동양화 속에 뜬금없이 등장한 현대적인 물건들과 알 수 없는 나체의 사람들
김민주는 전통 한국화의 재료와 도상들을 활용하여 일상의 공간과 산수화의 요소를 혼합하여 화면을 구성한다. 물고기를 잡지 않고 물고기와 하나가 되는 어부가 등장하기도 하고, 책상이나 책꽂이, 현대식 건물과 산수자연이 결합하기도 한다. 산수화의 요소들을 분해하기도 하고 결합하기도 하면서 화면 안에서 다양한 방식의 시각적인 이야기를 만들어낸다. 이러한 그림들을 통하여 서로 다른 시간과 공간, 역할들이 경계를 허물고 뒤섞이며 구분이 모호해지는 지점을 통해 일탈과 상상의 유희를 찾아보고자 하는 것이다. 서울대학교 동양화과 학사, 석사, 동대학원 미술학과 박사과정을 졸업하였다. <집-집>(컴바인웍스, 양유당, 2023), <고요한 숲으로>(공간시은, 2021), <문답집>(한미갤러리, 2017), <숲을 그린 까닭>(갤러리조선, 2014) 등의 개인전을 개최하였으며, 다수의 전시와 프로젝트에 참여하고 있다. 서울시립미술관 난지미술창작스튜디오, 국립현대미술관 고양창작스튜디오, OCI미술관 창작스튜디오, 프랑스 파리예술공동체 등의 입주작가로 활동하였으며, 한국문화예술위원회의 한국예술창작아카데미, 서울문화재단이 지원하는 시각예술 작가로 선정되기도 하였다.
Using traditional Korean painting materials and iconography, Min Joo Kim mixes everyday spaces with elements of mountain painting. In some cases, a fisherman becomes one with the fish instead of catching it, while in others, a desk, bookshelf, modern building, and mountainous nature are combined. By deconstructing and combining elements of mountain water paintings, he creates visual stories in various ways on the screen. Through these paintings, she aims to find deviation and imaginative play through the point where different time, space, and roles break down boundaries, intermingle, and blur distinctions. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Oriental Painting from Seoul National University, and her Ph.D. from Graduate School of Art. She has held solo exhibitions such as <Home-Home> (Gallery Combine Works, Yang Yudang, 2023), <To the Silent Forest> (Space Shi Eun, 2021), <Questions and Answers> (Hanmi Gallery, 2017), and <Why I Painted the Forest> (Gallery Chosun, 2014), and has participated in numerous exhibitions and projects. He has been a resident artist at the Nanji Art Studio of the Seoul Museum of Art, Goyang Studio of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, OCI Art Studio, and the Paris Art Community in France, and has been selected as a visual artist supported by the Korean Academy of Arts and Creativity of the Arts Council Korea and the Seoul Arts Foundation.
