북촌에 위치한 갤러리 컴바인웍스는 Parker McComb 개인전 ‘HYDROHALO’ 를 2026년 02월 21일부터 03월 13일까지 진행한다.
Water runs through Hydrohalo not as an image to be depicted, but as a condition -fluid, immersive, and quietly formative. For Parker McComb, water is less a motif than a lived reality. Born in Florida and now eight years into life and work in Seoul, the artist approaches water as a medium through which memory drifts, identity loosens, and form resists final closure.
Hydrohalo marks McComb's third solo exhibition in Seoul and his first solo exhibition with Combine Works Gallery.
Bringing together eight works, the exhibition unfolds through states of suspension - between past and present, origin and displacement, weight and buoyancy. Rather than offering a linear narrative, Hydrohalo presents a sequence of held moments, where materials gather briefly before dispersing again.
At the centre of the exhibition is AquaAngels (2026), a suspended installation composed of over 100 scallop shells paired with peacock feathers. The work was developed through close attention to Combine Works Gallery -its vertical volume, natural light, and framed views of the surrounding Bukchon rooftops. Individually hung at varying heights, the elements float through the space, activating air, light, and movement. Shells register weight and origin, while feathers introduce extension, ornament, and optical shift. As iridescent eyespots catch the light, colour flickers and fades, resisting any fixed point of view.
Across installation and photography, McComb constructs fragile arrangements of shells, glass, textiles, and light.
These works do not document moments; they hold conditions -states of balance where time feels briefly paused and meaning emerges through material tension rather than narrative. Hydrohalo proposes the self not as something fixed, but as something buoyant-shaped by movement, light, and duration.
<하이드로할로> 물은 재현의 대상이 아니라 하나의 조건으로 작동한다. 유동적이고 몰입적이며, 조용히 형성을 이끄는 상태로서 의 물이다. 플로리다에서 태어나 현재 서울에서 8년째 생활하며 작 업해온 파커 맥콤에게 물은 하나의 모티프라기보다 삶의 현실에 가 깝다. 물은 기억을 흘러가게 하고, 정체성을 느슨하게 풀어내며, 형 식이 쉽게 닫히는 것을 거부하는 매질로 기능한다.
<하이드로할로>는 맥콤의 세 번째 서울 개인전이자, 컴바인 웍스 러리에서 선보이는 첫 개인전이다. 여덟 점의 작업으로 구성된 이번 전시는 과거와 현재, 기원과 이동, 무게와 부력 사이에 놓인 현수된 상태를 따라 전개된다. 선형적인 서사를 제시하기보다는, 재료들이 잠시 모였다가 다시 흩어지는 일련의 머무는 순간들을 보여준다.
전시의 중심에는 설치 작업 〈Aqua Angels〉(2026)가 자리한다. 100 여 점이 넘는 가리비 껍질과 공작 깃털로 구성된 이 작업은 컴바인 웍스 갤러리의 수직적 구조와 자연광, 그리고 북촌의 지붕 풍경이 액 자처럼 들어오는 공간적 특성에 대한 세심한 관찰을 바탕으로 구상 되었다. 서로 다른 높이에서 개별적으로 매달린 요소들은 공기와 빛, 관람자의 움직임에 반응하며 공간을 활성화한다. 조개껍질이 무 게와 기원을 환기한다면, 깃털은 확상과 장식, 그리고 시각적 변이를 도입한다. 공작 깃털의 눈무늬가 빛을 포착하는 순간마다 색은 나타 났다가 사라지며, 시선은 끝내 고정되지 않는다.
설치와 사진을 넘나드는 맥콤의 작업은 조개, 유리, 직물, 빛으로 이 루어진 섬세한 배치를 동해 위태로운 균형 상태를 구축한다. 이 작업 들은 어떤 순간을 기록하기보다, 잠시 유지되는 조건을 붙잡는다. 시 간은 잠시 멈춘 듯 느껴지고, 의미는 서사가 아니라 물질 간의 긴장 에서 발생한다. <하이드로할로>는 자아를 고정된 존재가 아닌, 움직 임과 빛, 시간에 의해 형성되는 부유하는 상태로 제만한다.

Parker McComb
(b. 1990, Sarasota, Florida) is a visual artist currently living and working in Seoul. A former New Yorker, he holds a degree from Parsons School of Design.
Working across photography, objects, and installation, McComb explores tensions between intimacy and distance, clarity and ambiguity. His works subtly estrange familiar materials, creating emotionally charged frameworks in which psychological undercurrents and contradictions surface. Operating between the physica and the perceptual, his practice invites introspection, tracing memory, desire, and the fragile ties that shape human experience. McComb has exhibited internationally, with presentations at Floor Gallery, 131 Gallery, and The Ryse Hotel, and has completed commissions for the 14th Gwangju Biennale, the Oh Museum of Art, and DEFINE:
SEOUL design+fine art fair.

파커 맥콤
미국 플로리다 새러소타)은 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 시각예술가이다. 파슨스 디자인 스쿨을 졸업한 그는 사진, 오브제, 설치 작업을 넘나들며 친밀함과 거리감, 명확함과 모호함 사 이의 긴장을 탐구한다. 익숙한 재료를 미묘하게 낯설게 배치함으로 써, 그의 작업은 물리적인 것과 지각적인 것 사이에서 작동하며 기억 과 욕망, 정서적 연결의 혼적을 따라간다. 맥콤은 플로어 갤러리, 131 갤러리, 더 라이즈 호텔 등에서 국제적으로 작품을 선보였으며, 제14회 광주비엔날레, 오뮤지엄, DEFINE: SEOUL 디자인+파인 아트 페어를 위한 커미션 작업을 수행한 바 있다.
