아니쉬 카푸어의 작품 <프로토 프로토>는 ‘최초’, ‘초기’라는 의미를 가진 희랍어에서 유래한 제목처럼, 무언가가 생성되는 찰나의 순간을 포착합니다. 이처럼 우리는 책을 통해 사유의 시작점에 있는 수많은 ‘프로토’의 순간을 만나기도 합니다. 연작은 아니쉬 카푸어의 작품에서 영감을 받아 북아티스트 김명수가 2021년부터 제책 실험한 수작업의 결과물입니다. 이 작업들은 새로운 창작의 모체이자 설계의 견본으로 기능하며, 구조적인 책 작업의 가능성을 탐구합니다. 2025년 1월, 컴바인웍스 갤러리에서 열리는 아티스트 북 워크숍 PROTO는 프로젝트의 연장선상에서 진행됩니다. 참가자는 작가의 메시지를 담은 아티스트 북 견본을 직접 제작하며, 책을 보다 구조적으로 활용하고 예술적 가치를 지닌 책 작업을 경험하게 됩니다. PROTO 워크숍은 책을 매개로 작품 세계를 확장하고자 하는 시각 예술 작가들을 위한 자리입니다. 관심 있는 분들의 많은 참여를 기대합니다.
